The primary role of the GCDMN is to maintain current details in the GCDMN Contacts and Resources Directory (updated every 6 months) for use by the Sunshine Coast Local Disaster Management Group (LDMG) in the event of major emergency events; and to host meetings of the GCDMN (currently three per year). If groups receive calls for help, people are to redirect any enquiries to the relevant agency (see the Quick Links page and the GCDMN Handbook for further details).
While the Sunshine Coast Local Disaster Management Group (LDMG) is responsible for maintaining the overall regional disaster management plan, resilience within the community to natural hazards and human-caused events starts with the individual and encompasses those individuals, community groups and networks, business, government and non-government agencies that are representative within these communities. See further information in the GCDMN Handbook on disaster management arrangements.
